Why do we measure people's capacity
To love by how well they love their progeny?

That kind of love is easy. Encoded.
Any lion can be devoted

To its cubs. Any insect, be it prey
Or predator, worships its own DNA.

Like the wolf, elephant, bear, and bees,
We humans are programmed to love what we conceive... )

Welcome Blanket

"A welcome blanket is traditionally created to lovingly mark the arrival of a new person into the world. In the Welcome Blanket project, each handmade blanket is a physical manifestation of this celebration of new refugees and other immigrants: “Welcome to the United States and your new life here! We are so glad you have arrived.”"

The Smart Museum of Art of Chicago is asking for donations of handmade blankets (40"x40") to welcome families coming to our country (the USA), but also to try and make a GIANT blanket equal to the size of the proposed wall between us and Mexico. As a way to protest the wall.

The museum is going to display the blankets (and notes if you include one) from now until December when the blankets will be delivered to families. The deadline to send blankets to the museum is November 4.

Some days we can see Venus in mid-afternoon. Then at night, stars
separated by billions of miles, light travelling years

to die in the back of an eye.

Is there a vocabulary for this—one to make dailiness amplify
and not diminish wonder?

I have been so careless with the words I already have.

I don’t remember how to say home
in my first language, or lonely, or light.

I remember only
delam barat tang shodeh, I miss you,

and shab bekheir, goodnight.

How is school going, Kaveh-joon?
Delam barat tang shodeh.

Are you still drinking?
Shab bekheir.

For so long every step I’ve taken
has been from one tongue to another.

To order the world:
I need, you need, he/she/it needs.

The rest, left to a hungry jackal
in the back of my brain.

Right now our moon looks like a pale cabbage rose.
Delam barat tang shodeh.

We are forever folding into the night.
Shab bekheir.

Archivists, I'm not sure what the status is regarding restoring files to the archive, but so many of mine are still missing.
A friend has uploaded several for me, so I thought I'd drop you the link so you can grab them and re-upload, if that's possible?

Link is here and the zip contains the following
Ach, Das Knaben Augen (mp4)
Je te Veux

As well as some older podfics that I think have been restored to the archive already

hope this helps!

Summary: "The light enters the room before Éowyn does, a rolling dry heat with it; just enough warning for Faramir to close one book and open another. She enters hard on its heels. 'Hail, Steward, from the south fair tidings,' she says, pulling off her helm halfway through, so the words are muffled. 'I can’t stay long. I came to give you word of Harad and your brother. So I have this 1947 book of American crochet patterns with a lot of really styling vintage women's jackets and cardigans that I need, but the one I want to make first* uses Afghan crochet (what's currently called Tunisian). I haven't done enough Afghan to be confident winging it and I don't know anyone in RL who does Afghan crochet, so I am relying on you, DW.

Specifically, the pattern calls for a "10-inch medium hook". That is the only hook sizing information it has.

The google is being unhelpful in terms of telling me what size 10-inch Afghan/Tunisian hook corresponds to a vintage pattern's "Medium."

The gauge is supposed to 6 stitches to the inch with 3-ply sport yarn (assuming sport weight was the same in 1947) if that helps?

*it's based on a WWII-era battle jacket redone as women's crochet businesswear and called The Warrior's Jacket so obvs I need it for work and I happen to have all this khaki cotton sport yarn sitting here...

Ke-Mo Village Girl

I am a Mo Village girl.
I wander, sell beer, happen to meet you.
Good jars don't mean good brew.
Clothes well-mended are better than ill-sewn.
Bad beer soon sends you home.
A torn shirt when mended will become new.

Em la con gai Ke Mo,
Em di ban ruou tinh co gap anh.
Rudu ngon chang quan be sanh,
Ao rach kheo va hon lanh vung may.
Rudu lat uong lam cung say,
Ao rach co mun, va may lay lanh.

"Vouchsafe to those that have not read the story,
That I may prompt them: and of such as have,
I humbly pray them to admit the excuse
Of time, of numbers and due course of things,
Which cannot in their huge and proper life
Be here presented. Now we bear the king
Toward Calais: grant him there; there seen,
Heave him away upon your winged thoughts
Athwart the sea. Behold, the English beach
Pales in the flood with men, with wives and boys,
Whose shouts and claps out-voice the deep mouth'd sea,
Which like a mighty whiffler 'fore the king
Seems to prepare his way: so let him land,
And solemnly see him set on to London.
So swift a pace hath thought that even now
You may imagine him upon Blackheath;
Where that his lords desire him to have borne
His bruised helmet and his bended sword
Before him through the city: he forbids it,
Being free from vainness and self-glorious pride;
Giving full trophy, signal and ostent
Quite from himself to God. But now behold,
In the quick forge and working-house of thought,
How London doth pour out her citizens!
The mayor and all his brethren in best sort,
Like to the senators of the antique Rome,
With the plebeians swarming at their heels,
Go forth and fetch their conquering Caesar in:
As, by a lower but loving likelihood,"
